December 04, 2025December 04, 2025

Using Product Lookup from the Front End is an easy way to ring up items that customers frequently purchase. Before a cashier can use the Product Lookup from the register, though, you’ll first have to set it up in the Back End using the Product Lookup Designer. In this article, we’ll show you where to access the designer and how to use it. Read on to see how easy it is!

Accessing the Product Lookup Designer

In the Back End main menu, click on Products > Product Lookup Designer to open the designer.

Creating Categories in the Product Lookup Designer

You should start by creating categories for the Product Lookup window. This makes navigating it on the Front End much easier. Since categories do not have to be associated with specific departments or sections, we recommend having one called Favorites or something similar for the most commonly purchased products.

  1. In the Product Lookup Designer, click on Add New. This will open the Add Category window. Image of the Product Lookup Designer. The Add New button is highlighted.

  2. Enter the Category Name.

  3. Click on Add Picture to upload an image.

  4. Click on Save on the bottom right to save and create your Category.

Please Note: The Product Lookup Designer only supports images in the .png format at this moment. If your image is not in .png format, you can change the file extension or use a file converter.

Adding Products to a Category

Adding products to a Category in the Product Lookup Designer is similar to creating Categories:

  1. Click on a Category to select it. You’ll see it outlined in red, as in the thumbnail for Deli selected in the image below.

  2. Click on Open from the menu of options to the left of the Categories.Image of the Product Lookup Designer in the Back End. In this image, number 1 highlights the Deli category, and 2 highlights the Open button.
