Troubleshooting Discounts

January 08, 2026January 08, 2026

If you occasionally come across products that should be discountable but aren't, this article provides tips on how to make the discounts work. Take a look!

Fix a Product That's Not Allowing Discounts

If you're working in the Front End and you find a product that's not allowing a discount, you'll need to log into the Back End to fix it. Click to open the Products menu, then go to Product Maintenance and follow the steps below.

  1. Start by entering text to Search for the item you want, or you can scan in the UPC code.
  2. Click on the item to bring up its information.
  3. Click on the Properties tab.
  4. Find the Discount setting and check the box to allow discounts for the item.
  5. Click Save in the upper right.

Please Note: Your change will not immediately push to the Front End. You can either log out of the Front End then log back in to refresh, or you can go to the Manager Functions area and click to Synchronize, as pictured below.

After a fresh login or a synchronization, the product will be discountable in the Front End.

Set a Department So All Products Are Discountable

If you see multiple items from the same Department that are not allowing discounts in the Front End but should be doing so, you can use the steps below to fix the Department.

  1. Click Administration in the Back End main menu to open the menu.
  2. Click Departments.
  3. Find the Department you want and click on it to load its information.
  4. In the middle panel, click the Department Properties tab.
  5. On the right, find the Discount setting and check the box to enable discounts for all products in the department.
  6. Click the Save button at the top to save the setting. You will see a confirmation that the department has been updated and a confirmation window will pop up.

  7. Check the boxes for any settings you changed, including the Discount setting.
  8. Click the Send Changes button to update all products in the department.

Again, the change won't push to the Front End right away, so you can either log out and then log into the Front End again to refresh, or you can Synchronize from the Manager Functions menu.
